Starting from a template
Templates are the fastest way to launch a popup or quiz. Instead of building every screen from a blank page, you pick a ready-made layout (an email capture, a product quiz, a post-purchase survey, and more), and SupaPop creates a brand-new popup you fully own. The template is just a starting point. Everything in it is yours to edit.
When your store has brand settings configured, your brand colors are applied to the template automatically, so the new popup often comes out already styled to match your shop.
How to create a popup from a template
- On the Popups page, click Create popup in the top-right corner. (If you have no popups yet, you will instead see a Create your first popup card in the center of the page with a Create popup button. Both buttons open the same picker.)
- The Create a new popup window opens. You will see a few ways to start.
- Pick the tab for what you want to build: Quizzes, Email & SMS, Post-purchase, or Start from scratch. Each tab shows the templates that fit that goal.
- Click the template you want.
- In most cases, a second window appears: Where will visitors see this? Choose one of the three options (see below), then your popup is created.
- SupaPop opens your new popup so you can start editing right away.
That is it. Your popup is created as a draft, named New Popup, ready for you to rename and customize.
How the picker is organized
The picker has a tab for each goal, and every card creates a real, editable popup. Each card is tagged so you know what you are getting: Ready-made (a complete quiz or popup with the steps and copy already written), Style (a ready-made look you add your own steps to), or Gamified (a spin-to-win or scratch-card game).
- Quizzes are multi-step quizzes that route to a recommendation or offer. Includes ready-made funnels like the Skincare Quiz and the Product Recommendation Quiz (a 7-step, scored quiz with product results), plus styles like Warm & Organic.
- Email & SMS are lead-capture popups: email and SMS opt-in, discounts, and games. Includes the ready-made Coupon Capture Popup (email capture with a 15% off coupon reveal, a countdown timer, and a shop button), styles like Clean & Minimal, Bold & Modern, Playful & Colorful, and Email + SMS Capture (a 4-step popup with an intro splash, email capture, an SMS opt-in, and a thank you), and the Spin to Win and Scratch & Win games (tagged Gamified).
- Post-purchase is the Post-Purchase Survey, a 2-question survey that runs on your Shopify thank-you page and collects attribution and experience feedback.
- Start from scratch is a blank 3-step popup you build yourself (see below).
Choosing where visitors see it
After you pick most templates, the Where will visitors see this? window asks you to choose one of three options:
- Popup overlay on your storefront: the popup appears over your store pages.
- Standalone page (own URL): the experience lives on its own page with its own link.
- Feedback survey (popup overlay, no email): a survey overlay that does not ask for an email.
Your choice sets how the popup is shown, and it overrides the template’s default. So if you pick a quiz template but choose Popup overlay on your storefront, it becomes an overlay instead of a standalone page. The window notes that you can change this later in the editor under Container settings.
Starting from scratch instead
If you would rather build your own, open the Start from scratch tab in the picker and click Blank popup. This creates a blank 3-step popup (capture, survey, thank you) that you build out yourself. It works just like a template, only with empty starting content.
Tips
- Templates are independent copies. Picking a template does not connect you to a shared design. You get your own brand-new popup, and every screen, color, and word is editable.
- Rename your popups early. Every new popup (from a template or blank) starts named New Popup. If you create several without renaming, your list will show multiple identical New Popup rows. Give each one a clear name right after you create it.
- Tabs sort by goal; tags tell you what you are getting. The Quizzes, Email & SMS, and Post-purchase tabs group templates by what they do. Within a tab, a Ready-made tag means the steps and copy are already written, Style means it is just a look you build out, and Gamified marks the spin and scratch games.
- Pick a mode that fits the template. You can choose any display mode for any template, but a multi-screen quiz set as a Popup overlay may feel cramped. If the result looks off, switch the mode later under Container settings.
- Close without creating anything by clicking Cancel in the top-right of the picker, or by clicking the dimmed area outside the window.
The post-purchase survey is different
The Post-Purchase Survey template skips the Where will visitors see this? step and creates right away, because it always runs on the Shopify thank-you page.
There is one extra step the picker does not do for you. A post-purchase survey only appears once you place the SupaPop block on your Shopify thank-you page. When you set the survey live, SupaPop shows a go-live confirmation with an Open Checkout Editor button and step-by-step instructions: in the Checkout Editor, confirm the page selector at the top reads Thank you, click Add app block, pick post-purchase-survey, drag it where you want it, then click Save. SupaPop also shows a reminder banner on your home page until the block is placed. If you skip this step, the survey goes live but customers won’t see it and it will collect zero responses. If your survey looks empty, check that the block is placed in the Checkout Editor first.
